It's incredibly ironic that during the process of fundraising for a film about the importance of foot health and staying connected and grounded, it was impossible for me to remain healthy or grounded. I had been neglecting the very thing I was advocating for. This doesn't have to be nor should it be the case. In fact it's incredibly disservicing.
We've learned a tremendous amount about fundraising, crowdsourcing, and building a community, but perhaps the biggest take away for me is that I have to stay true to myself. It doesn't matter if the film gets finished sooner if during the process of making it, my well being is compromised. It doesn't matter if we are able to pay for equipment for shooting excellent images and capturing great sound, if we are unable to connect with the people we're interviewing. Only from a space of honesty can one tell a story completely. This has always been true, but how easy it is to forget when you do not allow space for remembering. Now, from this place of failure we have the opportunity to sculpt the production into the full shape it should truly be. What a gift!
What does this mean for the film? The production plan and timeline will shift, pushing the film's release back a bit. We're all taking a little bit of a break from the project to regroup and reconnect. I've just arrived in Alaska, where I'll be visiting family and enjoying quiet with many adventurous opportunities for my feet. After our respite, the team will gather and plan our next course of action.
My request of all of you Foot followers, is that you stay with us through this journey. Please stay tuned for more updates and ways to get involved in the production! You can follow us on twitter, facebook, or join our email list. I'm looking forward to what's to come.
Until next time,
